The Upper Middle Rhine Valley has been a UNESCO world cultural heritage site since 2002 and remains a popular wine growing area. The unusually pretty countryside has about 40 palaces, castles and forts, which were built over a period of approximately 1,000 years. Artists from all over the world came to this region to be inspired by the countryside.
